Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, participates in and completes Department sponsored and federal training programs to develop professional skills and knowledge of applicable rules and regulation in regard to licensure standards for health facilities for persons with psychiatric disorders. As a Psychiatric Social Rehab Coordinator (PSRC), performs routine health safety surveys to assure compliance with applicable rules and regulation at long term care facilities. Assists in investigation of institutional complaints in Medicaid funded or Public Health licensed facilities alleging violations of the Nursing Home Care Act.

  1. Participates in and completes Department of Public Health sponsored and federal training programs to develop professional skills and knowledge of applicable rules and regulations, including the Nursing Home Care Act and Titles 19 and 19 of the Social Security Act, in regard to licensure standards and conditions of participation in Medicare and Medicaid programs for health facilities for persons with developmental disabilities. Through the study of licensing and certification laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, learns applicable principles of statutes used by health facility surveyors.
  2. As a Psychiatric Social Rehab Coordinator, travels to perform routine health and safety surveys to assure compliance with applicable rules and regulations at long term care facilities. Provides technical support on issues related to compliance with regulations associated with psychiatric disorders and related areas; documents findings; prepares reports of field surveys and discusses plans of correction relating to health and safety aspects of these facilities with supervisor and team members.
  3. Assists in investigating institutional complaints in Medicaid funded or Public Health licensed facilities alleging violations of the Nursing Home Care Act and Titles 18 and 19 of the Social Security Act, which are mandated by law, discusses complaint findings with team members and prepares related reports regarding the developmentally disabled.
  4. Collects data, prepares reports and under guidance appears as a witness and provides testimony for pre-hearing conferences, Department and non-Department hearings and/or court proceedings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a human services professional field such as sociology, special education, rehabilitation counseling, or psychology, supplemented by one year of experience working directly with persons with mental retardation or other developmental disabilities and an additional two years of professional experience affording knowledge of the problems and needs of mentally retarded individuals and/or those with related conditions; or a master’s degree in a human services professional field and one year of experience working directly with persons with mental retardation or other developmental disabilities.
  • Requires ability to travel and possession of a valid Illinois Drivers License.
