Job Responsibilities
Under direction and in accorance with established standards, procedures and policies, acts as shift charge nurse/lead worker of the nursing care staff on an assigned shift of multiple care units where supervisory direction is not available. Directs subordinate staff in the use of prescribed techniques to ensure a safe, sanitary and therapeutic environment of care and general performance of prescribed duties. Participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires (a) graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing and two years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience; or (b) a bachelor's degree in nursing and one year of professional nursing experience; or (c) a master's degree in nursing. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Requires extensive knowledge of professional nursing principles and procedures and theory. Requires extensive knowldge of normal and abnormal reactions to various drugs and medications. Requires extensive knowlege of set up, application and use and care of specialized medical equipment. Requires extensive knowldge of the methods and techniques utilized in developing educational programs. Requires extensive knowledge of pharmacology of commonly prescribed medicines and drugs and their therapeutic and possible adverse reactions. Requires ability to develop and maintain harmonious working relationships with patient care staff. Requires ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate. Requires ability to instruct non-nursing personnel in the proper practices and procedures of patient care. Requires ability to apply emergency medical techniques such as Cardioplmonary Resuscitation, control of bleeding an airway maintenance. Requires ability to guide, motivate, orient and educate assigned patient care staff. Requires ability to present eductional materials in a clear and concise manner.
Employment Conditions
Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Requires CPR certification.
