Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Superintendent 3 for Donnelley Fish and Wildlife Area. This position will exercise budgetary controls with operating and capital improvement budgets, inspect facilities for preventative maintenance planning, oversee site security/safety programs, review, analyze and incorporate proposals concerning short and long-range plans for site maintenance, and promote department programs, The ideal candidate will be able to utilize their supervisory experience, problem solving skills, independent research ability and public speaking skills. Donnelley/Depue State Fish and Wildlife Area is comprised of hardwood bluffs, riparian floodplain habitat, and the impounded backwaters of Coleman Lake. It's managed primarily for migratory waterfowl and is one of the nation's first public youth waterfowl hunts. We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today.
Essential Functions
- Serves as full line supervisor
- Under direction, manages the operation and development of Donnelley/Depue SFWA and Green River State Wildlife Area
- Directs and participates in the maintenance of site grounds, facilities, and equipment
- Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements site activities and programs compatible with the natural/cultural resource base
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the media and interested groups of individuals
- Assists visitors and general public with site information, policies and procedures
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to a bachelor's degree in park and recreation administration, or natural resources area administration, or in a museum administration, history, American studies, or archeology.
- Requires four years of supervisory experience in managing an outdoor recreational park, or natural public area, or a cultural/historic site or museum.
- Requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of working knowledge of principles and practices of site administration, including site interpretation, natural and/or cultural resources conservation, structural grounds maintenance, public relations, and personnel administration.
- Two (2) years of experience assigning and supervising the work of assistants and staff members.
- Two (2) years of experience applying appropriate levels of knowledge in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of job duties and responsibilities.
- Two (2) years of experience expressing ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Two (2) years of experience maintaining and operating diesel, electric, or PTO driven pumping systems
- Two (2) years of experience in agricultural farming

- Ability to obtain pesticide applicators license within 6 months of employment
- Ability to work under adverse environmental conditions on a year-round basis
- Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of the site resources, buildings, and grounds.
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds
- Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain
- Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR Certification
- Ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.

OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.
Work Hours: Mon - Fri 7am-3pm Jan 1- Oct (actual date varies based on Duck season); Thurs - Sat 4am-2am and Sun 4am-1:30pm Duck season - Dec 31
