Position Overview

Under direction of the Director of Nursing, performs professional nursing care services on an assigned shift.  Serves as a lead worker to lower level staff.  Provides work-related guidance, instruction, and explanations to lower level direct care support staff.  Serves as Center-Wide medical/nursing resource during the absence of other professional nursing personnel on the assigned shift.  Monitors completion of tasks, makes rounds, completes quality assurance checks, ensures staff coverage, assigns breaks/lunches, and signs off on nursing assessments, rounds paperwork and paperwork related to medical drills.  Serves on call as assigned. Serves as Center Float Nurse for medication administration.  Assists with the development and implementation of behavior programs. 

Job Responsibilities

30%       1.  Performs professional nursing care services on an assigned shift to individuals served at the Mabley Developmental Center. Monitors vital signs and physical conditions and reactions to treatment. Administers medication to individuals served.

 

15%       2.  Provides work-related guidance, instruction, explanation to lower level direct care support staff on an assigned shift in the care of individuals, injury reduction, health and safety, hygiene, treatment, procedures, and the use of equipment. Monitors completion of tasks, make rounds consulting with physicians and other professional staff regarding the individuals' treatment and care, completes quality assurance checks, ensures staff coverage, assigns breaks/lunches, and signs off off on nursing assessments, rounds paperwork and paperwork related to medical drills.  Serves on call as assigned. Assists with the development and implementation of behavior programs. 

 

10%       3.  Serves as designated lead worker to lower level staff.

 

10%       4.  Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.

 

10%       5.  Sets up, operates, and monitors special equipment. Inventories, orders, and maintains security of medication, drugs, and medical equipment and supplies.

 5%        6.  Prepares and maintains medical records and histories. Monitors lower level staffs’ nursing notes and records.

 

 5%        7.  Serves as Center-Wide medical/nursing resource during the absence of other professional nursing personnel on the assigned shift.  Serves as Center relief RN, as needed.

 

 5%        8.  Serves as a Center Float Nurse for medication administration on an assigned shift.

 

5%        9.  Completes training and participates in continuing education workshops, seminars, and in-service training sessions.  Assists in coordinating and implementing training to direct care staff.

 

5%        10.  Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires (a) graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing and two years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience; or (b) a bachelor's degree in nursing and one year of professional nursing experience; or (c) a master's degree in nursing. 
  2. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires extensive knowledge of pharmacology of common prescribed medicines and drugs and their therapeutic and possible adverse reactions. 
  • Requires physical ability to provide treatments. 
  • Requires the ability to accomplish unit rounds and facility-wide emergency medical duties. 
  • Requires the ability to perform or deliver mouth-to-mask CPR and manual resuscitation. 

Work Hours:  5:45 PM - 6:15 AM  

Every other weekend off
