Essential Functions

20%  Under administrative direction, serves as a Senior Technician for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT):

  • Performs complex professional and advisory functions in the Midrange Systems Operations Section.
  • Advises on the development of components to support modern systems development methodologies and standard operation procedures.
  • Performs complex testing and system conversion processes.
  • Performs high level detail design and codes programs in the installation of complex information processing utilities associated with patching and configuring micro-computers, local area network, client server, or otherwise integrated information processing systems or sub systems.
  • Utilizes Microsoft (MS) platforms and systems such as X86, 32-bit, 64-bit, MS Windows Server, and Windows desktop systems in performance of duties.
  • Utilizes program language such as PowerShell, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) server, server clusters, server mirroring, storage area network (SAN), Active Directory, and internet technologies in performance of duties.
  • Provides expertise and system level technical assistance with the identified technologies, in the resolution of the more complex and technical problems.
  • Conducts complex post implementation reviews for patches and configurations.
  • Works closely with users, IT staff, and vendors to provide second level problem diagnosis and resolution to client and server related problems.

 

20%  Performs complex functional and technical activities supporting utility and production stand-alone, local area network, client server, or otherwise integrated information processing systems:

  • Develops and implements complex software and hardware interface functions to achieve the most expeditious and effective methods in establishing or revising programs and routines associated with the network system.
  • Assists lead technicians in analyzing the performance and diagnostics of processing issues in Window Servers and initiates requests for support action.

 

15%  Conducts and coordinates in-depth studies involving substantial technical research and systems analysis:

  • Provides agency management with high level technical assistance in the development, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, modification, and installation of comprehensive information systems.
  • Makes recommendations regarding supporting policies, methods, and procedures to implement programs and improve various systems.
  • Performs complex system design and program modifications and implements those modifications into production.
  • Develops testing requirements.
  • Implements complex system and program modifications into production.
  • Assists lead technicians in the evaluation of system needs as part of the agency’s long range planning effort.
  • Performs hardware and software studies and evaluations.
  • Reviews application requirements to assess feasibility for automation.

 

15%  Performs complex research and support activities for the division:

  • Assists with the support of the entire department’s staff, including field personnel and other remote workers.
  • Assists lead technicians in the review of the technical requirements pertaining to hardware and software architectures and infrastructure for the conformance with State and industry standards.
  • Serves as a technical specialist supporting configuration and operation on particularly complex applications sub-systems in the agency.

Essential Functions Continued

15%  Serves as a project team lead for assigned major and complex projects and very large hardware/software deployments:

  • Leads and guides assigned project team members including analysts, programmers, and support personnel in various highly technical activities.
  • Coordinates, monitors, and reviews activities and functions of project team members.
  • Determines and coordinates project components such as project scheduling and assignments.
  • Assigns and reviews the paperwork of project analyst staff.
  • Reviews results and incorporates individual components of project into the final product.
  • Drafts systems implementation work plans, cost/benefit information for projects, personnel requirements, and the conversion approach for projects and submits to management for review and approval.
  • Prepares detailed reports for management.

 

5%  Provides training in areas of Midrange Wintel and Software Management:

  • Provides and coordinates training supported by the unit.
  • Provides complex technical and analytical support to new analysts and lower-level staff.
  • Collaborates with the Learning & Employee Development Director to oversee training development, planning, and delivery of Midrange Wintel and Software Management services.

 

5%  Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field:

  • Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques and procedures.
  • Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations

 

5%  Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related field.
  2. Requires three (3) years of professional experience in systems services or a related Information Technology field.

Specialized Skills

  1. Requires three (3) years of professional experience in Microsoft (MS) platforms and systems for X86, 32-bit and 64 bit, MS Windows Server and Windows desktop systems.
  2. Requires three (3) years of professional experience with programming language such as Power Shell, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) server.
  3. Requires three (3) years of professional experience with server clusters, server mirroring, storage area network (SAN), Active Directory, and internet technologies.
