Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire an Activity Therapist for the Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center located in Anna, Illinois to develop and implement direct therapy and therapeutic activity programs for individuals. Serves as a member of the treatment team. Formulates treatment plans, writes program notes, makes detailed analysis and evaluation of assigned individual needs and their responses to treatment and formulates realistic discharge plans. Plans, organizes and directs activities according to individual treatment plans. Completes activity therapy assessments and compiles evaluation data for the development of habilitation plans; evaluates complex behaviors and reactions relative to individuals served reaction with activities and leisure time; establishes and coordinates types and schedules of activity programs.
Essential Functions
- Develops and implements direct therapy and therapeutic activity programs for individuals served at Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center.
- Serves as a member of the treatment team.
- Completes assessments on assigned cases, implementing therapeutic modalities and documenting such as determined by center and departmental policies and procedures.
- Orders and stocks supplies and equipment for various activities. .
- Monitors and maintains adequate resources and verifies a safe environment for individuals served and staff.
- Assists in providing in-service training for both activity and non-activity staff.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor's degree with a major in therapeutic recreation, music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, drama therapy, leisure studies or recreation with a specialization in recreational therapy, including successful completion of an approved internship, fieldwork or practicum.
