Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is pleased to announce an opening for a Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) for the Forensic Units AFCA, AFCB, AFCC & Locust Unit night shift at Alton Mental Health Center. The Alton Mental Health Center is seeking to hire an energetic and detail-oriented licensed Registered Nurse to direct and oversee para-professional and non-professional nursing personnel, assuring that general health and nursing care needs are met for our patients. Alton Mental Health Center strives to provide equitable access to social/human services, supports, programs and resources to enhance the lives of all who we serve.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Serves as the Clinical Nurse Manager for the Forensic Units AFCA, AFCB, AFCC & Locust Unit for the night shift at Alton Mental Health Center.
  2. Serves as full-line supervisor.
  3. Provides recommendations to the DON (Director of Nursing) in the development of policies and procedures.
  4. Evaluates patient services by conducting ongoing audits (e.g. performance improvement) of services provided in adherence to established goals and standards.
  5. Provides professional nursing services to patients including new admissions, administering medications, giving shots, taking medical histories, etc.
  6. Develops a plan to implement alternatives to restraint/seclusion which outlines the roles and responsibilities of program staff.
  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse by the State of Illinois.
  2. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in nursing.
  3. Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience in a public or business organization.

Preferred Qualifications (in priority order)

  1. Three (3) years of professional experience supervising professional nursing staff.
  2. Three (3) years of professional experience meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail and the ability to utilize critical thinking skills while multi-tasking multiple projects.
  3. Two (2) years of professional nursing experience working with individuals with mental illness.
  4. Two (2) years of professional experience recommending or preparing treatment plans for patients.
  5. Three (3) years of professional experience communicating with internal and external stakeholders in oral or written form relative to the care and treatment of patients.
  6. Three (3) years of professional experience recommending and implementing nursing policies and procedures following evidence-based practice and nursing standards.
  7. Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  8. Two (2) years of professional experience recommending and implementing disciplinary actions following collective bargaining agreements.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  2. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
  3. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  4. Requires the ability to physically restrain patients as medically or psychiatrically necessary to prevent injury to the patients or others.
  5. Requires the ability to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
  6. Requires the ability to serve on-call after business hours, weekends and holidays on a rotation basis.
