Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician II for the Alton Mental Health Center located in Alton, Illinois to perform duties on the night shift of Locust associated with the direct care and treatment designed to help patients, within assigned group areas to achieve greater mental, physical and social development. Verifies compliance to facility philosophy, program, procedures and practices. Provides physical support to patients with personal care services. Conducts individual and group programs. Verifies patient safety and protection. Teaches and directs patients in the maintenance of a clean, safe and secure environment.

Essential Functions

  • Performs duties on the night shift of Locust associated with the direct care and treatment designed to help patients, within assigned group areas to achieve greater mental, physical and social development.
  • Provides physical support to patients with personal care services.
  • Conducts individual and group programs.
  • Verifies patient safety and protection through appropriate monitoring, supervision and oversight.
  • Teaches and directs patients in the maintenance of a clean, safe and secure environment.
  • Attends and completes mandated training as required by the Department of Human Services (DHS), the facility and programmatic unit.
  • As part of a treatment team, identifies options for best practice treatment interventions in lieu of restraints/seclusions.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires successful completion of an approved training program and six (6) months experience in, or applicable to the care, treatment or habilitation of individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to pass CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Training.

  • Requires the ability to physically restrain patients as necessary to prevent injury to the patient or others.

  • Requires the ability to conduct unit rounds, respond to facility-wide emergencies, to observe, monitor and redirect patient behavior.

  • Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.

  • Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.

  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.

  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
