Position Overview
The Division of Pharmacy and Clinical Support Services is seeking to hire a Pharmacy Manager to plan, direct, and coordinate the overall pharmacy program of the Alton Mental Health Center in Alton, Illinois. The Pharmacy Manager will be responsible for abiding by the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act, the Illinois and Federal controlled substance acts and also be responsible for evaluating the quality assurance and enhancement activities associated with the provision of pharmacy services; monitor the control of pharmacy inventory by accurate record and commodity control; serve on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, the Infection Control Committee, the Medical Staff Committee, the Facility Management Team, and other facility/DHS committees.
Job Responsibilities
- Serves as the Pharmacy Manager abiding by the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act, and the Illinois and Federal controlled substance acts.
- Serves as working supervisor.
- Evaluates the quality assurance and enhancement activities associated with the provision of pharmacy services.
- Monitors the control of pharmacy inventory by accurate record and commodity control.
- Serves on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, the Infection Control Committee, the Medical Staff Committee, the Facility Management Team, and other facility/DHS committees.
- Arranges for emergency pharmacy services on a 24-hour basis.
- Lifts, pushes, and carries medication carts and boxes weighing 25 lbs. to fill the automatic drug dispensing machines and deliver medication to nursing stations and re-stocking.
- Dispenses pharmaceutical preparations and supplies for individuals.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires sufficient combination of classroom instruction and supervised clinical practicum to graduate from a first professional degree program in pharmacy at a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
- Requires current license as a registered pharmacist in the State of Illinois.
- Requires two (2) years of supervisory experience as a registered practicing pharmacist of a pharmacy operation or a closely related practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of professional experience working as a pharmacist for a private or public organization.
- One (1) year of professional experience dispensing pharmaceutical preparations and supplies for individuals.
- Three (3) years of professional experience directing a pharmacy program for a public or private organization.
- Three (3) years of professional experience supervising staff in the pharmaceutical field.
- Three (3) years of professional experience evaluating the quality assurance and enhancement activities associated with the provision of pharmacy services for a public or private organization, including reviewing individuals’ charts/records for adverse drug reaction, drug side effects and drug interaction.
- Three (3) years of professional experience implementing and recommending policies and procedures for a pharmacy program.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to lift, push and carry 25 lbs.
- Requires the ability to prepare complex prescriptions.
- Requires ability to direct and supervise the preparation of and complex prescriptions.
- Requires the ability to maintain licensure in good standing as a registered pharmacist in the State of Illinois.
- Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. - Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
