Job Responsibilities
Under general supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager and the clinical direction of the Charge Nurse, performs as a shift nurse in the delivery of patient care and treatment consistent with individual treatment plans; participates as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team; provides professional nursing care to mentally ill patients on a forensic living unit. Receives, verifies and documents patient drugs received from pharmacy and administers prescribed oral medications to patients. Completes mandatory nursing training requirements and continuing education workshops and seminars. Meets with patients, family, significant others, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree in nursing. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State or Illinois. This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires working knowledge or diversified professional nursing principles, concepts and practices. Requires working knowledge of pharmacology of commonly prescribed medicines and drugs and their therapeutic and possible adverse reactions. Requires ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate. Requires the ability to apply emergency medical techniques such as CPR, control bleeding, airway maintenance. Requires ability to instruct non-nursing personnel in the proper practices and procedures of patient care. Requires ability to maintain security of the work area and comply with all facility rules, regulations, policies and directives. Requires ability to evaluate patient condition and behavior and prepare accurate detailed records of such observations. Requires ability to identify most appropriate positive treatment regime and carry out that treatment in accordance with best practice and behavior modification.
Employment Conditions
Requires ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate and Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI).
Work Hours: Hours of work will vary based upon operational needs and shift availability
6:45 am - 7:45 pm
6:45 pm - 7:15 am
RN's receive 1 unpaid lunch hour
