Job Responsibilities

Under direction serves as a lead worker over the evening shift of the Control Unit staff, monitoring the forensic building's automation security control panel which monitors all forensic building access. Provides therapeutic care to patients in a secure residential care housing facility forensic unit in the absence of the shift lead worker. Coordinates the movements. conduct, activities, and basic care of patients under his/her jurisdiction. Serves as a backup in the Staffing Office, makes changes in employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage, verifies accuracy of time sheets prior to submission for approval. Physically restrains patients to prevent injury to the patient or others.

 

SPECIFICALLY:

 

25%       Serves as designated lead worker to lower level staff; assigns and reviews work; provides guidance and training to assigned staff, advises immediate supervisor regarding performance of staff.

 

20%       On the evening shift of the Control Unit staff participates in overall patient care and treatment: maintains the safety care focus of the therapeutic milieu. Coordinates the movements. conduct, activities, and basic care of patients under his/her jurisdiction. Continually observes patient behavior; identifies the need for therapeutic intervention, takes corrective actions to prevent adverse patient outcomes. Uses established CPI models including the MT in dealing with situations where patients present imminent risk to self or others. Attends treatment planning meetings to share information concerning care considerations, patient behaviors and responses to treatment. Provides general guidance and counseling to patients directed at helping the patient toward recovery. Assists in development of individualized patient treatment. and personal safety plans with focus on recovery. Analyzes areas for improvement of intervention or techniques during potential containment events related to aggressive behaviors of patients. Identifies options for best practice treatment interventions in lieu of restraints/seclusions, assists patients in identifying behavior leading to restrain or seclusion, and in utilizing behavior modifications to avoid such treatment options. Gathers information from patients about treatment preferences, fears, etc.

 

 

Job Responsibilities (continued)

20%       Works in the Control Unit for the Forensic Complex: monitors the movement of visitors and patients while in the visitation room; monitors the forensic building's automated control panel which monitors all forensic building access locations including doors. windows, etc.; alerts local and county law enforcement and hospital security when breaches of security occur: receives/issues, logs and stores all keys and JD badges for visitors: verifies safety and security of hallways, rooms, doors, etc., using video cameras: conducts and records periodic checks of doors, rooms. hallways, etc. Searches patients, visitors and packages for contraband; confiscates contraband to include drugs, weapons. alcohol. etc. Monitors incoming calls for patients; serves as switchboard for the facility.

 

15%       Serves as a backup in the Staffing Office; implements facility timekeeping policies & procedures: makes changes in employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage; updates daily staff attendance reports, ove11ime lists, etc. Advises Nurse Managers on staffing issues: makes recommendations to the Nurse Managers on approving/denying time-off requests based upon the operational needs of the unit & shift. Verifies accuracy of time sheets prior to submission for approval. Reviews requests for special staff assignments of technicians. and nurses to accompany patients to doctors' appointments, community trips. one- to- one staffing, hospital sitter services patient UA searches. light duty. training etc.; makes initial determination of staffing needs and identifies potential needs for overtime or call back: advises supervisory staff of issues and makes recommendations for handling coverage of unit.

 

5%         Provides therapeutic care to patients in a secure residential care housing facility forensic unit in the absence of the shift lead worker: assigns staff to patient care activities; monitors and reviews functions of the unit staff to assure duties are c0mpleted: completes shift reports of staff activities.

 

5%         Physically restrains patients to prevent injury to the patient or others: performs Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

 

5%         Develops new training programs to implement changes to actions when responding to a crisis: schedules and conducts practice and training sessions with response team members and lower level staff.

 

5%         Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school. Requires one year supervisory experience in security therapy work, including successful completion of an approved Security Therapy Aide Training Program or equivalent experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requires extensive knowledge of rules. regulations and policies of the department and the facility. Requires physical ability to pass CPI training to conduct unit rounds, to respond to facility-wide emergencies; requires ability to administer disciplinary, safety, security and custodial and treatment measures. Requires ability to maintain satisfactory working relationship with public officials, investigatory, and law enforcement agencies and fellow employees and carry out that treatment in accordance with best practice and behavior modification. Requires ability to perform and deliver mouth to mask CPR and manual resuscitation. to write clear & cohesive statements in the clinical records.

Work Hours:  2:15 PM - 10:45 PM  

Group E, every other weekend off, Tuesday-Friday off
