Psychologist I - Position Overview

Under direct supervision, performs professional psychologist services to individuals including assessment program planning, instructing staff on implementation of programs and data collection and interpretation of individual progress.  Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team.

Psychologist I - Job Responsibilities

1.  Performs professional psychologist services to individuals including assessment program planning, instructing staff on implementation of programs and data collection and interpretation of individual progress.  Conducts and interprets psychological testing and assessments, submits test/assessment documents and progress notes to lead psychologist for review and consultation.  Provides information for the individuals diagnosis.  Provides crisis intervention to individuals.  Provides individual and group interventions daily including crisis intervention, corrective feedback, adjustment to the Living Unit, and transition to the community upon discharge.

 

2.  Assists with complex individuals. Provides input into treatment plans and assists with Behavior Intervention Plans. Completes initial assessments upon admission. Completes discharge paperwork. Gathers and analyzes data and makes recommendations for treatment modalities.

 

3.  Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team.  Prepares reports and attends annual reviews. Participates in developing and implementing habilitation plans.  Provides recommendations for implementation of treatment interventions, discharge planning, and interpretation of behavior of individuals.  Completes psychological assessments initially and annually and provides information to the Treatment Team for the development of the treatment plan.

 

4.  Instructs professional and non-professional staff regarding proper behavior modification techniques. Makes decisions regarding interpretation of program issues, facility policies, treatment for individuals and group management.

 

5.  Participates in Facility committees and Psychology Department meetings as appointed, this includes Behavior Intervention Committee and Medical Staffing meetings.  Participates in other committee and/or sub-committees as assigned.

 

6.  Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Psychologist I - Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires a master's degree in psychology from a recognized college or university supplemented by two years' professional experience in psychology, OR satisfactory completion of the psychologist associate program.  

 

This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.  

Psychologist I - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires working knowledge of test procedures, standard test forms, and mental measurements.
  • Requires working knowledge of both normal and abnormal psychology.
  • Requires ability to work cooperatively and effectively with staff members and individuals.
  • Requires ability to properly interpret psychological information and to make sound recommendations.

Psychologist I - Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related Policies and guidance.  
  2. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.

Psychologist Associate - Position Overview

Under the direct supervision of a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, for a period not to exceed 12 months, actively participates in in-service and on-the-job training to develop further expertise in the field of Clinical Psychology including assessment, diagnostic, and treatment activities.  Professional development will include skill and technique development in psychological interviews, administration, scoring, and interpretation of psychological tests; individual and group psychological treatment procedures; integrated treatment plan development; research concerns in mental health care; and case management and presentations.  Associated professional development will include; familiarity with Department services, and a working knowledge of Department program policies, rules, and procedures.

Psychologist Associate - Job Responsibilities

1.  For recipients with mental, emotional, behavioral, or nervous disorders or conditions on the Mental Health Services Units, engage in; assessment activities to include administering, scoring and interpreting IQ tests, MMPI tests and subjective/projective tests. 

 

2.  Formulate comprehensive individualized treatment plans based upon findings of assessment and diagnostic activities which identify clinical strengths and needs and present such treatment plans in weekly case conferences with professional treatment team.

 

3.  Supervision of assessment, diagnostic, and treatment activities for two to three hours per week by a Licensed Clinical Psychologist.

 

4.  Integrate the activities, objectives, and goals of the Psychology Internship Handbook with the treatment programs on Mental Health Services.

 

5.  Engage in learning activities dealing with clinical issues related to Mental Health Services including monthly psychological staff meetings and clinical case presentations and peer reviews, treatment team reviews, and clinical forums. May serve on committees.

 

6.  Conduct research and design methodologies to collect data on potential recipients screened by the intake program, and recipients receiving Mental Health services.

 

7.  Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
