Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Rehabilitation Workshop Instructor I for the Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center located in Anna, Illinois to perform training with and supervise individuals in day-to-day tasks in the rehabilitation workshop. Assigns work, maintains quality and quantity control and observes individual behavior in a work situation. Assists in planning lessons in state approved curricula and instructs individuals involved in the day training programs in work-related social behavior and work-related self-help skills. Observes learning patterns and work performance of individuals. Travels in performance of job duties.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs training with and supervises individuals in day-to-day tasks in the rehabilitation workshop at the Choate Mental Health & Developmental Center.
  2. Assists in planning lessons in state approved curricula.
  3. Monitors work performance to ensure that quality standards and delivery of services are met. 
  4. Instructs individuals on basic operation and proper use of equipment. Maintains and operates equipment, including, but not limited to, balers, paper shredders, and paper laminators.
  5. Records and reports daily training data for individual attendance and production.
  6. Attends and actively participates in training. Attends in-service training and continuing education for professional growth and development. 
  7. Assists in selecting and obtaining supplies for the vocational/educational program and assists in maintaining inventory. 
  8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.  

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school.
  2. Requires one (1) year experience in a rehabilitation workshop or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. One (1) year of professional experience in a rehabilitation workshop for a public or private organization.
  2. One (1) year of professional experience instructing individuals in proper work attitudes, habits and work- related social skills.
  3. One (1) year of professional experience monitoring work performance to ensure that quality standards and delivery of services are met.
  4. One (1) year of professional experience documenting information in records.
  5. One (1) year of professional experience teaching elementary workshop tasks to clients.
  6. One (1) year of experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
  2. Requires the ability work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
  3. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  4. Requires ability to travel.
  5. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
  6. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
