Position Overview
Under direct supervision, performs routine tasks in providing therapeutic custodial care to adults in a secure residential care unit. Oversees the movements, conduct, activities and basic care of patients in assigned unit. Provides general guidance and counseling to patients; prepares routine reports concerning patient behavior, progress and responses to treatment of medications; confers with supervisor concerning special programs.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs routine tasks in providing therapeutic custodial care to adults in a secure residential care unit. As a member of a team, participates in overall patient care and treatment.
- Assists in on-the-job training of STA Trainees in either classroom or facility setting.
- Assists in the settlement of minor disputes among individuals.
- Provides security during distribution of prescribed medications.
- Records patient behavior on logs, charts, and reports; prepares routine reports concerning patient behavior, progress and responses to treatment of medications.
- Reports updates of roster of patients for specific areas.
- Conducts routine checks of security equipment and the interior of the buildings to ensure the integrity of the security systems, locks, screens, etc. Performs searches of patients’ rooms and other areas to ensure that the living environment is kept safe and secure from contraband, weapons, etc. Operates security and surveillance equipment essential to the overall security of the facility.
- Oversees patient hygiene and safety to ensure that the personal care needs of the patients are met. Issues supplies to patients.
- Confers with supervisor concerning special programs. Provides direct services in living skills training and simple recreational programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires successful completion of an approved Security Therapy Aide Training Program or equivalent experience.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
Work Hours: 6:45am - 3:00pm; Rotating days off (Time Groups 1, 2, & 7)
