Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Security Therapy Aide II for the Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center to maintain the safety and security of the facility, work area, individuals and staff. This person will serve as designated lead worker. Logs and monitors the distribution of keys, security devices, radios, and cell phones for use by unit, writ team and movement staff. Monitors individual activity on and off the unit. Alerts supervisor to unusual circumstances within facility. Ensures that entry and exiting of the facility after hours and on weekends is monitored.
Essential Functions
- Maintains the safety and security of the facility, work area, individuals and staff.
- Serves as designated lead worker.
- Logs and monitors the distribution of keys, security devices, radios, and cell phones for use by unit, writ team and movement staff.
- Records individual behavior and progress during movement on logs, charts and reports.
- Conducts formal, classroom training for trainees and other new facility staff.
- Updates roster of individuals for specific areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires two (2) years experience as a Security Therapy Aide, including successful completion of an approved Security Therapy Aide Training Program or equivalent experience.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
- Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
- Requires the ability to pass Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
- Requires the ability to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
