Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Vocational Instructor for the Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center located in Anna, Illinois to provide vocational/occupational instruction/training related to the assessed needs of intellectually disabled individuals. Conducts day training/vocational training programs, time studies and assists in obtaining job sites. Evaluates progress of individuals in classroom and work settings. Serves as job coach for individuals.
Essential Functions
- Provides vocational/occupational instruction/training related to the assessed needs of intellectually disabled and/or mentally ill individuals residing at Choate Center.
- Evaluates progress of individuals in classroom and work settings.
- Serves as job coach for individuals.
- Attends and participates in program meetings and conferences with other professional disciplines for planning, coordinating, and evaluating the instructional and treatment needs of the individuals.
- Requisitions and stores vocational supplies and equipment.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires two (2) years of practical journey level experience in the trade or occupational area for which instruction is given.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of professional experience providing occupational/training for a private or public organization.
- One (1) year of professional experience coordinating classroom instruction to develop practical job skills and knowledge in students.
- One (1) year of professional experience preparing reports and evaluating training progress using suitable performance measures.
- One (1) year of professional experience developing job opportunities in the community utilizing job coaching and other employment support systems.
- One (1) year of professional experience instructing individuals in interview skills and techniques.
- One (1) year of experience communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
- Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
