Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire Site Technician II's at Kaskaskia River. This position will operate site water/wastewater treatment facilities, collect and forward monthly test samples to agencies and adjust chemical dosages, trap and band waterfowl, operate pumps, boats and pump barges placing pumps, check performance of engines, gauges as well as oil levels, build forms for concrete, plow and shovel snow, reroof buildings, assists in the rescue of injured or stranded site visitors and sells camping permits and collects fees. The Kaskaskia River State Fish & Wildlife Area is one of the largest state-owned and managed sites in Illinois. Located 35 miles southeast of St. Louis, Missouri, the area comprises more than 20,000 acres and extends along the Kaskaskia River from Fayetteville to the Mississippi River in St. Clair, Monroe and Randolph counties. Essential Functions
- Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of the grounds, facilities, and equipment at Baldwin Lake/Kaskaskia River.
- Performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Assist with maintenance of site buildings and grounds.
- Participates in the operation of the sites.
- Performs semi-skilled tasks in the upkeep of the sites.
- Assists with the safety and security of the sites.
- On a seasonal basis, provides training and guidance to seasonal, volunteer, and contractual employees to familiarize them with facilities, programs, etc.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
- Requires a Valid Class A Illinois Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brakes
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
- Two (2) years of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.

- Ability to obtain pesticide operator’s license within 6 months of employment
- Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis
- Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds
- Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds
- Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain
- Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
