Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Kaskaskia River State & Wildlife Area. This position will perform operation and maintenance of the grounds, facilities, and equipment including but not limited to construction and painting. On a seasonal basis this position will use their personal skills to provide training and guidance to seasonal, volunteer, and contractual employees. The Kaskaskia River State & Wildlife Area contains 20,000 acres located in St. Clair, Monroe, and Randolph Counties. It also contains a 2,018 acre reservoir built by the Illinois Power Company. Essential Functions
- Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of the grounds, facilities, and equipment at Baldwin Lake/Kaskaskia River.
- Perform routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment
- Assist with maintenance of site building and grounds
- Participates in the operation of the sites
- Performs semi-skilled tasks in the upkeep of the sites
- Assists with the safety and security of the sites
- On a seasonal basis, provides training and guidance to seasonal, volunteer, and contractual employees to familiarize them with facilities, programs, etc
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing
- Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions
- Two (2) years of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations

- Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history
- Requires appropriate valid Class A Commericial driver's license with air brakes
- Requires ability to obtain pesticide operator's license within 6 months of employment
- Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis
- Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds
- Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds
- Requires abiliity to walk over rough and broken terrain
- Requires ability to obtain and maintail First Aid/CPR certification
