Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, performs progressively responsible institutional health and safety surveys to assure compliance with applicable rules and regulations at long term care facilities. Prepares reports of field surveys. Investigates institutional complaints; collects and prepares data. Explains and interprets State laws, Department rules and regulations, policies and procedures as they relate to institutional health and safety to providers and other parties.

 

  1. As a member of a survey team, travels to perform routine health and safety surveys to assure compliance with applicable rules and regulations at long-term care facilities. Prepares reports of field surveys and evaluates plans of correction relating to health and safety aspects of these facilities.

 

  1. As a team member, assists in investigating institutional complaints; collects and prepares data; documents evidence for use in adverse actions against non-compliance facilities; under guidance appears and provides testimony at legal proceedings or at administrative hearings.

 

  1. Explains and interprets State laws, Department rules and regulations, policies and procedures as they relate to institutional health and safety to providers and other interested parties.

 

  1. Participates in and completes agency sponsored and/or federal training programs to develop professional skills and knowledge of applicable rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Requires completion of four years of college with a minimum of 30 semester hours in the physical and/or biological sciences, supplemented by one year professional experience in environmental health sanitation or in a health care facility.
  • Prefers excellent computer and laptop skills and work experience in Microsoft products.
  • Requires ability to travel and possession of a valid Illinois Drivers License.
