SITE TECHNICIAN II (UMP)

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician II at Rend Lake State Fish & Wildlife Management Area for The Office of Land Management. This position will perform routine grounds maintenance and janitorial duties, including plowing snow, plumbing repairs, HVAC maintenance, set posts for and maintain signage on 82 miles of boundaries. This position will also trap and band waterfowl. Outdoor sportsmen will find a haven of recreational activities at Rend Lake. With 18,900 acres of water and over 20,000 acres of land in Jefferson and Franklin counties, Rend Lake provides ample opportunities for hunting and fishing. Rend Lake is located between Mt. Vernon and Benton, just off interstate 57. We welcome all interested candidates to apply.

Essential Functions

• Under direct supervision operates such heavy equipment such as grain trucks, bulldozers, backhoes, road graders, and farming machinery up to 350hp for the site’s wildlife farming programs.
• Performs routine maintenance and makes repairs on site vehicles, tractors, and other equipment.
• Assists with building and grounds maintenance including boat ramps at the sites.
• Performs routine tasks related to outdoor recreational programs.
• Assists in assuring the safety and security of the site and visiting public.
• Provides leadership and direction to seasonal employees, volunteers, and other staff.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
• Requires Valid Class A Illinois Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brakes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
• Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
• Two (2) years of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.
• One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
• One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.
