SITE TECHNICIAN II (UMP)

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 for Rice Lake. This position will perform semi-skilled maintenance activities associated with the operations and programs at Rice Lake/Banner Marsh Park/Double T; performs routine maintenance of vehicles, equipment and tools; assists with the safety and security of the sites; and participates in the maintenance of the park grounds to include routine cleaning and repairs. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize their problem-solving skills and public speaking skills. Rice Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area consists of 5,660-acre area including Big Lake, Slim Lake, Goose Lake, Pond Lily Lake, Lock Pond, and Copperas Creek Management Unit, much of the park is wetland, and the park is best known for waterfowl hunting. Essential Functions

• Under direction supervision, performs semi-skilled maintenance activities associated with the operations and programs at Rice Lake/Banner Marsh Park/Double T.
• Participates in the operation of the sites
• Assists staff and park visitors with various aspects of the parks
• Assists in implementing the safety and security of the sites
• Participates in the maintenance of the park grounds
• Performs routine cleaning of site buildings
• Performs repair work on site buildings and property
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing
• Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions
• Two (2) years of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations

• Ability to pass background check
• Valid driver's license
• Requires ability to obtain pesticide operator's license within 6 months of employment
• Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis
• Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds
• Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds
• Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain
• Requires ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR Certification
