SITE TECHNICIAN II (UMP)

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire Site Technician II's at Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area. This position will participate in site construction and ground maintenance; operate and maintain site vehicles, small and heavy equipment such as weed eater, chain saws, road-grader, end-loader and backhoe; release pheasants into hunting areas and band harvest pheasants; and tendshunter check station and collect hunting fees. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize their maintenance, foul rearing, and communication skills. Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area is a 3,000-acre site on the western shore of Carlyle Lake and is probably best known for its camping facilities that attracts more than 800,000 visitors annually to camp, boat, fish, hunt, picnic, bird watch and to hike more than 9 miles of trails. We welcome all interested candidates to apply.

Essential Functions

• Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled tasks and travels in the maintenance and operation of Eldon Hazlet State Park.
• Participates in the maintenance to all site structures.
• Assist in site grounds maintenance.
• Participates in the Controlled Pheasant Season.
• On an intermittent or seasonal basis provides leadership and direction to seasonal employees, volunteers, or other staff.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
• Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
• Two (2) years of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.

• Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.

• Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
• Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
• Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
