Position Statement

The Office of Land Management is seeking to hire a Site Technician 2 in the Region 4 area at Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area. The individual in this position will work in an outdoor environment daily. The ideal candidate should have experience and knowledge of operating and maintaining a variety of tools and heavy equipment to use and repair projects throughout the park. The Office of Land Management (OLM) oversees nearly 400 individual parcels a/ land and Institutes a wide variety of programs and activities advocating outdoor recreation through sustainable use, conservation and preservation. The Historic Sites Division of the Office of Land Management oversees over 57 Historic Sites, Monuments, and Memorials. OLM facilitates activities from small group Interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. 

Job Responsibilities

1.    Performs semi-skilled work and travels in the maintenance and operation of Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area:

  • For site construction and other projects uses small and large tractors used for mowing and performing other related work.
  • Operates and maintains site vehicles, heavy equipment, such as road-grader, end­-loader, regional equipment such as tree spades, stump cutters and back hoe.
  • Utilizes small equipment items such as weed eaters and chain saws.

 

2.    Participates in the maintenance to all site structures:

  • Works on improvements to shower buildings, office complex, maintenance work area, sewage treatment facility, new cottages and concession buildings, vail toilets, picnic shelters, play equipment area, amphitheater, fish cleaning station, boat ramps, courtesy docks, and campground pads.
  • Constructs repairs to concrete work, picnic tables, ground stove installations and repairs, and all trail maintenance.

 

3.    Assists in site grounds maintenance:

  • Mows and trims various public areas.
  • Upkeeps maintenance of various wildlife habitat plots.
  • Helps with annual habitat improvements associated with controlled burning.
  • Repairs rock camp pads, roadways, plows and shovels snow.

 

4.    Participates in the Controlled Pheasant Season:

  • Mows hunter access trails with bush-hog and style mowers.
  • Installs, maintains and removes special signage and trash receptacles used during the program.
  • Releases pheasants into hunting areas and bands harvested pheasants.
  • Tends hunter check stations.
  • Collects hunting fees and sells hunting licenses to the public.

 

5.    On an intermittent or seasonal basis provides leadership and direction lo seasonal employees, volunteers or other staff:

  • Provides on-the-job training to new employees and volunteers to familiarize them with site facilities, programs, tools and equipment.
  • Performs First Aid and CPR.
     

6.    Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of a the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two year's maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing;
  • Requires ability follow written and oral instructions;
  • Reqiures ability to inform visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations;
  • Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year round basis;
  • Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds;
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads which may exceed sixty (60) pounds;
  • Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
