Position Overview
Under general direction of the Field Services Supervisor, performs architectural duties with responsibility for highly specialized and complete physical plant evaluation, regulation and code interpretation, and submission of technical reports for health care facilities for which the Department has licensure or certification responsibilities.

Essential Functions
- Under general direction, travels to conduct mandated annual, follow-up and special investigations of health care facilities to determine conformance with applicable laws, regulations and life safety codes related to federal certification programs, physical plant requirements, federal conditions of participation, state licensure or generally recognized practices.
- Prepares mandated survey forms in office and on site.
- Conducts inspections of construction projects regulated under the Department’s various licensing act.
- Conduct complaint and incident report investigations.
- Serves as an expert witness for the Department at state and federal hearings or court proceedings.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in Architecture or architectural studies.
- Requires possession of a valid Illinois certificate as a registered architect.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years progressively responsible professional experience in Architecture.
- One year experience conducting annual, follow-up or special investigations of health care facilities to determine conformance with applicable laws, regulations and life safety codes.
- One year experience conducting inspections of construction projects.
- One year experience reading and interpreting building and life safety codes and standards.
- Elementary knowledge of basic engineering principles.
- One year experience in Microsoft Word, processing, and spreadsheet applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties.
- Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
- Requires the physical ability to climb stair and ladders, and inspect physical environment and life safety systems to include construction sites.
- Requires completion of the Life Safety Code Surveyor certification program within 24 months of hire.
