Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Sanganois State Fish and Wildlife Area. This position will perform maintenance of the grounds, facilities, and equipment including but not limited to planting of vegitation and banding of waterfowl. The individual in this position will operate vehicles with a total GCWR of 26 001 or more pounds with Air Brakes. Sanganois State Fish and Wildlife Area is approximately 10,360 acres, including 1,700 acres of water located at the merging of the Sangamon and Illinois River, spanning across Cass, Schuyler, and Mason Counties. The site is primarily managed for public hunting and offfers opportunities for fishing and boating. We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today.
Essential Functions
- Under direct supervision, operated heavy equipment and performs semi-skilled work associated with the hunting and resource management programs.
- Operates trucks and tractors and attachments to perform maintenance and renovation tasks on the site's grounds, trails, waterways, spillways, day-use areas, boat ramps, levees, roads and parking lots
- Builds concrete forms for water control structures
- Plants trees, shrubs, flowers and inspects public use areas for hazards such as flooding, fallen trees, erosion, broken picnic tables, and road washouts from flooding and burrowing animals
- Operates pumps, boats, wells, and water control gates for the drawdown and flooding of 14 water impoundments
- Patrols area to check on encroachment and unauthorized area usage
- Traps and bands waterfowl
- Cleans and disinfects restrooms
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
- Requies education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two year's maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machindery and implements and/or warehousing
- Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions
- Two (2) years of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations

- Ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds
- Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain
- Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
- Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair and care of site resources, buildings and grounds.
