SITE TECHNICIAN II

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area. This position will perform maintenance of vehicles and equipment, maintain grounds and recreational programs, operating heavy equipment, maintain hunter check stations, clean restrooms, mow grass, plow snow and at times serve as a lead worker. Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area is one of Illinois' largest public access areas, it is a mosaic of mature forest land, agricultural land, grassland and rare hill prairie that is home to a rich assortment of wildlife. Essential Functions

• Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled work and routine tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of outdoor recreational programs for Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area.
• Operates heavy equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, tree spades, 80hp farm machinery for site projects and release of game for put/take or field trial events.
• Mows grass, trims shrubs/trees, hauls trash, plows snow.
• On a seasonal basis serves as lead worker for seasonal workers, volunteers, prison crews engaged in routine site maintenance and operational activities.
• Inspects site areas for public health and safety hazards.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery
  and implements and/or warehousing.
• Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
• Two (2) years of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.

• Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
• Requires valid Class A Illinois Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes.

OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.
