Position Statement
Under direct supervision, engages in semi-skilled activities in the care, maintenance and improvement of site grounds, structures, outdoor recreational and natural programs offered at Fox Ridge State Park.
Job Responsibilities
1. Under direct supervision, inspects public use areas and trail system for hazards such as flooding, broken equipment, and erosion:
- Removes dead and fallen trees
- Makes repairs to the bridge and stairway structures
- Repairs and paints picnic tables, shelters, group camp buildings, workshop, and maintenance buildings
2. Performs routine maintenance throughout the site:
- Mows grass and weed eats, rakes leaves, trims or plants shrubs and trees
- Collects and hauls trash
- Plows snow, shovels snow, patches roads
- Cleans and polishes floors
- Disinfects washrooms and fixtures, cleans showers
- Maintains and operates vehicles and equipment
- Hauls and delivers materials and supplies
- Clears and maintains trails
- Paints litter barrels
- Applies herbicides and pesticides
3. Performs semi-skilled work by completing a range of duties associated with various building trades:
- Makes minor repairs to electrical/plumbing/heating/ air conditioning equipment
- Constructs site projects
- Repairs roads
- Reroofs buildings
- Constructs, installs, and maintains fencing
- Maintains site interpretive signs
4. Serves as lead worker to seasonal or volunteer workers engaged in routine site maintenance and operational activities:
- Assigns and reviews work
- Provides guidance and training to assigned staff
- Advises immediate supervisor regarding performance of staff
5. Assists in the maintenance of park equipment and vehicles by performing preventative measures such as cleaning, lubricating, repacking bearings, and replacing various parts:
- Keeps records of work performed
6. Performs routine tasks related to the outdoor recreational programs:
- Sells camping permits
- Issues large group camping permits
- Makes presentations to school groups and local civic groups
- Informs visitors of rules and regulations
- Assists in the rescue of injured or stranded site visitors
- In the event of emergencies or disturbances, contacts proper authorities
- Patrols the park for safety and security issues
7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education and experience equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires two (2) year's maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Requires working knowledge of equipment and tools used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment, farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- Requires ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Requires ability to inform visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.
- May require ability to read and diagram blueprints.
- Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair and care of site resources, artifacts, buildings and grounds.
Physical Requirements
- Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements and work under adverse conditions on a year round basis.
- Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads which may exceed sixty (60) pounds.
- Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
Employment Conditions
- Requires possession of a valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to obtain a pesticide/herbicide operator's license within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to administer First Aid/CPR and maintain certification in such.

Work Hours: Apr. 16-Oct. 31: Mon-Fri 7:30am-3:30, rotating weekend shifts with Wed/Thurs off; Nov. 1 - Apr. 15: Mon-Fri 7:30am-3:30pm.
