Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Licensed Practical Nurse I for the Chester Mental Health Center located in Chester, Illinois to perform a variety of practical nursing functions for physically and mentally ill patients. Receives training in and/or performs simple nursing procedures and provides related patient care within a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) scope of practice. Serves as a member of nursing care treatment team. Checks and interprets physician orders and transcribes to medication record. Contributes to and maintains patient records. Assists unit staff with reviews.

Essential Functions

  • Performs a variety of practical nursing functions for physically and mentally ill patients at Chester Mental Health Center.
  • Receives training in and/or performs simple nursing procedures and provides related patient care within a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) scope of practice.
  • Serves as a member of nursing care treatment team.
  • Checks and interprets physician orders and transcribes to medication record.
  • Contributes to and maintains patient records by noting all medications given and charts results for all treatments performed and response to treatment.
  • Attends all in-service classes, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) review, seminars and informational meetings to further educate and enhance job skills.
  • Assists unit staff with reviews or patients in seclusion and restraint and provides input for continuation or release.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires Illinois license as a practical nurse.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires the ability to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
  • Requires the ability to lift and carry moderate loads up to 50 pounds and push a crash cart up to 100 pounds.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
