Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Stationary Engineer for the Chester Mental Health Center located in Chester, Illinois to receive day to day guidance from the Chief Stationary Engineer, installs, maintains, performs preventative maintenance, cleaning and trouble shooting and repairs various mechanical systems and auxiliary and powerhouse equipment. Makes rounds of buildings’ boiler and mechanical rooms at regular intervals. Tests and records water used for consumption or for generating seam and hydraulic hot water, chilled water systems. Confers with tenant agencies to resolve problems related to building services. Assists other facilities in the installation, maintenance and repair of various mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning of systems and equipment.
Job Responsibilities
- Receives day to day guidance from the Chief Stationary Engineer.
- Makes rounds of buildings’ boiler and mechanical rooms at regular intervals.
- Tests and records water used for consumption or for generating seam and hydraulic hot water, chilled water systems.
- Confers with tenant agencies to resolve problems related to building services.
- Assists other facilities in the installation, maintenance and repair of various mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning of systems and equipment.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of eight (8) years elementary school.
- Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high pressure and/or low-pressure stationary boilers.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires possession or the ability to obtain a valid certificate as a Universal Technician under U.S. E.P.A.
- Requires the ability to perform various tasks such as lifting and moving equipment/machinery up to 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance).
- Requires the ability to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Requires an appropriate valid driver’s license.
- Requires the ability to travel.
- Requires ability to keep simple records.
- Requires ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
- Requires ability to operate hand and power tools.
- Requires ability to perform repairs and maintain equipment and machinery.
- Requires ability to handle chemicals in the maintenance of systems.
- Requires ability to utilize agency supplied materials/equipment (e.g., pager, cell phone etc.).
- Requires ability to read and understand mechanical blueprints, technical equipment manuals.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
- Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
