Position Overview
The Office of Inspector General investigates reports of abuse, neglect, and mistreatment of people with physical, developmental and/or intellectual disabilities, and assists agencies and facilities in prevention efforts. The Office of Inspector General is seeking to hire a professional, organized, detail-oriented Assistant Deputy Inspector General. The Assistant Deputy Inspector General will be responsible for supervising its investigative teams in OIG’s Cook, North, and Metro Bureaus. The ideal candidate must have prior investigative experience and conduct their work with empathy and professionalism. Requires the ability to travel.
Essential Functions
- Serves as the Assistant Deputy Inspector General for Northern Regional Investigations of the OIG, with the full scope of processing activities and responsibilities.
- Serves as full-line supervisor.
- Develops and maintains effective working relations with agency staff, including the Office of Labor Relations.
- Speaks on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General with other state agencies, local governments, advisory groups, and working committees.
- Directs professional staff performing highly complex and specialized studies pertaining to the operations of the Office.
- Directs, coordinates, and supervises planning and operations to ensure efficient and effective utilization of agency resources allocated to the Region.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with coursework in business or public administration.
- Requires four (4) years progressively responsible administrative investigative experience in a public or business organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five (5) years of professional experience investigating administrative, civil, or criminal charges, rendering conclusions and producing detailed investigative case reports.
- Three (3) years of professional experience supervising multiple staff in an investigative, law enforcement or prosecutorial organization.
- Three (3) years professional experience mentoring and training staff in complex job duties.
- Five (5) years of professional experience reviewing and editing investigative case reports.
- Five (5) years of professional work experience dealing with sensitive investigations and maintaining confidentiality as required by directive, rule or statute.
- Two (2) years of professional experience interviewing witnesses for a public or private organization.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
