The Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the Department of Healthcare and Family Services is seeking a highly capable and experienced attorney to serve as an Attorney for OIG. The ideal candidate for this challenging and rewarding role will have legal management and leadership experience in an investigatory or regulatory organization, as well as experience with complex litigation; familiarity with insurance law, Medicaid regulations, and/or issues involving the use of medical records, medical terminology, and medical-system coding are a plus. In addition to impeccable technical legal skills and an accomplished professional record, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment in the identification of priorities, work collaboratively with internal and external partners, proactively address issues, and ensure timely completion of all work. They will exhibit strong leadership skills, demonstrate independent initiative, and achieve their strategic goals. The ideal candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

Job Responsibilities
- Serves as an Attorney in representing the Office of Inspector General (OIG) in administrative actions brought on behalf of the Department
- Counsels OIG leadership and staff on legal issues impacting the Office’s operations, procedures, and work product
- Drafts and files all legal pleadings, discovery, motions, settlements, and legal opinions and memos
- Preserves an orderly and uniform system of case files and current case notes on active cases assigned utilizing the OIG’s case management systems
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires graduation from a recognized law school
- Requires possession of a valid and current Illinois Law License
- Requires prior experience equivalent to three years of progressively responsible legal experience in a pubic or business organization
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience providing legal advice relating to fraud and abuse laws, regulations, and policies
- Two (2) years of professional experience litigating
- Two (2) years professional experience researching federal, state, and local statues and regulations
- Two (2) years professional experience providing legal counsel to a government agency
- Two (2) years of professional experience providing legal counsel related to the healthcare, health regulation, and/or Medicaid
- Two (2) years of professional experience reviewing, analyzing and using compliance reports and audit reports
- Two (2) years of professional experience working with law enforcement
- Two (2) years of professional experience interacting with external stakeholders

- Requires ability to travel state-wide to attend meetings at various sites
