Position Overview
The Illinois Pollution Control Board (IPCB) is seeking to hire an Assistant Clerk of the Board. This position is responsible for the docketing of adjudicatory and regulatory pleadings and filings. The position advises and consults with Board members and administrative staff on legal requirements pursuant to federal and state mandates and gathers information regarding the status of pending contested cases.
Essential Functions
1. Responsible for assisting the Board’s clerk in the docketing of adjudicatory and regulatory pleadings and filings.
2. Advises and consults with the Clerk, Board members, and administrative staff on requirements pursuant to federal and state mandates.
3. Gathers information regarding the status of pending contested cases.
4. Performs other duties and handles special projects as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration.
2. Requires one year of professional experience in a public or private organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.
Preferred Qualification
One Year of professional experience, preferably in State government.
Employment Conditions
1. Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
2. Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated t work overtime including schedule, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.

About the Agency
The Board is an independent agency created in 1970 by the Environmental Protection Act (Act). Under the Act, the Board has two major responsibilities: determining, defining, and implementing environmental control standards for the State of Illinois, and adjudicating complaints that allege non-criminal violations of the Act. The Board also reviews appeals arising from permitting and other determinations made by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), as well as pollution control facility siting determinations made by units of local government.

The hours are 37.5 hours/week, flexible (including the potential for hybrid remote work), and includes ten (10) paid vacation days the first year of service and can earn up to twenty-five (25) paid vacation days annually, up to 13 paid holidays the first year of employment, and up to twelve (12) paid sick days annually.
