Position Overview:
The Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Bureau of Medicaid Integrity, is seeking to hire an Auditor Trainee. Under direct supervision of the Senior Auditor and Audit Supervisor, the successful candidate will conduct external audits of simple areas as well as segments of complex areas. This includes financial and compliance reviews in Medicaid programs and provider post payments. The Auditor Trainee will utilize various agency software programs and networks to retrieve, analyze, and conduct specialized reviews of complex data for OIG to non-compliance patterns by Medicaid providers. Additional duties include routinely requesting and reviewing billing, financial, contractual, and other types of records from pharmacies and/or laboratories.
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of Medicaid policies, rules, and regulations, and HFS medical programs. The candidate must have the ability to multitask and work with complex spreadsheets, data reports, while accurately tracking this information. It will be important to be highly organized, demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment in the identification of priorities, work collaboratively with internal and external partners and proactively address issues, and to ensure timely completion of all work. Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.

Essential Functions
- Serves as Program Integrity Auditor Trainee by participating in an Agency-sponsored Medicaid provider auditor
training program of not more than 12 months in duration in the audit section - Completes assignments of increasing difficulty to gain experience and develop auditing skills
- Completes assigned auditing projects to develop and refine knowledge of the tools and techniques utilized in
performing medical provider audits and in drafting comprehensive audit reports - Attends and participates in staff meetings and conferences
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated
above
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires possession of a bachelor’s degree with coursework concentration in accounting or business administration
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience working with auditing theory and procedures
- One (1) year of experience working with and interpreting medical programs, policies, and procedures
- One (1) year of experience utilizing computer software, including, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, or any computer software related to medical records systems to conduct audits and develop reports
- One (1) year of experience drafting written audit reports
- One (1) year of experience auditing, billing, or medical scribing using medical terminology
- One (1) year of laboratory or pharmacy operations, or pharmacy retail experience
Conditions of Employment

- Requires the ability to maintain and utilize state issued equipment such as a laptop
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate
