To continuously raise health equity related to COVID-19, the Illinois Department of Public Health desires to hire a media/communications consultant to improve vaccine uptake among priority populations with a focus on communities in need.

Job Responsibilities

  • Media Communications
  1. Develop messaging to the state (as requested) for press releases and press briefings related to COVID-19 vaccination programs.


  • Development of New Assets
  1. Work with IDPH to assist in meeting community needs identified in learning networks such as developing local plans to improve vaccine uptake; creating, adapting or consulting on educational and promotional materials; identifying communities that could benefit from mobile vaccination units.
  2. Develop new vaccine FAQ's and other messaging for website and social media platforms; develop or consult in the development of presentation materials or other agreed upon assets for vaccine providers and the public.


  • State Agency Training
  1. Provide training to consumer-facing state agency staff in the use of communication techniques to improve vaccine uptake.  Staff may include, for example:  COVID-19 call center staff, testing/tracing staff, health ambassadors, pandemic health workers, human services staff, Medicaid managed care outreach or care coordination staff.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires at least an undergraduate degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations or a comparable discipline.
  • Requires a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in media communications.
  • Requires knowledge and skill of writing in AP (Associated Press) style.

Work Hours:  Monday through Friday 8:30 am -5:00 pm
