We are hiring a Cashier & Deposit Technician I – Spanish Speaking (Account Technician I – Spanish Speaking) for our Chicago Operations Division located at 555 W. Monroe in Chicago, IL. This position is responsible for working daily with coworkers, members of the public, and employees of other Revenue program areas and for accurately and consistently balancing payments and processing documents. Essential Functions
- Under general supervision, performs a variety of specialized and difficult tasks involving independent judgment and a high degree of accuracy.
- Receives and posts a large volume of current and delinquent tax returns and payments.
- Reviews tax returns for propriety and accuracy to ensure supportive documents are attached and remittance amounts are correct.
- Provides and fills over-the-counter purchases of tax stamps.
- Monitors the daily inventory and flow of work to be processed.
- Participates in section specific training concerning policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college and completion of an approved training course -OR- three years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
- Requires the ability to speak and write Spanish at a colloquial skill level in carrying out position duties in conjunction with non-English speaking individuals.
Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this class.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience applying accounting methods and techniques.
- One (1) year of experience working in a customer service field which involves cashiering functions.
- One (1) year of experience balancing and reconciling accounts.
- One (1) year of experience reviewing standard forms for accuracy and completeness.
- One (1) year of experience performing quality review to detect errors in production output.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
- Requires the ability to walk, stand, and reach above shoulder level.
- Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Requires the ability to push and pull carts of inventory and batches of work.
- This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires the ability to use and secure a state issued mobile device, e.g., cellular phone, laptop computer, tablet, etc.
