Position Overview

The Illinois Lottery is hiring an Internal Security Investigator with a passion to ensure the Illinois Lottery’s integrity remains the highest possible for its players and employees. The successful candidate will be able to multi-task duties, while remaining calm under high pressure circumstances, and communicate clearly to a wide variety of people. Essential Functions

  • Travels throughout the state, to serve as an investigative team member conducting security audits of state-wide Lottery operations and retailer compliance audits, to verify adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Assists the Chief of Investigations and other investigative team members to ensure the integrity of the lottery games and prevent the perpetration of fraud upon the Agency and the public.
  • Conducts confidential investigations concerning the routine cases involving instances of conflicts of interests or malfeasance of Lottery employees.
  • Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information by telephone, in person, electronically or by mail from retailers, players, employees, management, legal, etc., regarding security issues or potential fraud.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college, with coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration, plus three (3) years professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field,

          OR

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with major coursework in law, government, liberal arts, history or business or public administration, plus one (1) year professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field,

           OR

  • Requires completion of the F.B.I. National Academy or comparable law enforcement schooling.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers working knowledge of modern law enforcement investigatory techniques and concepts.
  • Prefers working knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of state agencies.
  • Prefers working knowledge of statutes, rules and regulations concerning conflicts of interest or malfeasance of office.
  • Prefers ability to recognize and gather appropriate statements, exhibits and materials acceptable for use in prosecution of cases or disciplinary action.
  • Prefers ability to maintain security during investigatory activities.
  • Prefers ability to prepare case reports for referral to prosecuting agency.

 

 

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver's license.
  • Requires ability to walk and stand for long periods of time, climb, bend, and stoop, lift heavy objects, and reach above shoulder level during surveillances and/or investigations.
  • Requires the ability to utilize state issued equipment, (i.e., cell phone, laptop, car, etc.).
