Job Responsibilities

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and results oriented individual to serve as Deputy Director of Intact Family Services.  This position will plan, develop, and administer Intact Family Services operations for the Department, serving as principal policy formulating administrator on a statewide basis.  The position will provide oversight of subordinate Administrators and Regional Administrators who provide oversight of their respective areas.  This position provides a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about children and interested in being a leader in the administration of services to intact families.  DCFS offers a competitive compensation plan, excellent benefits, and a pension program.  The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent organizational skills and strong leadership skills.  We invite you to join our innovative team to help make a positive difference in the lives of the children and families of Illinois.

 

  • As Deputy Director of Intact Family Services, plans, develops, directs, and administers intact family services operations for the Department
  • Serves as full line supervisor of subordinate supervisory staff
  • Serves as a member of the Director’s Executive Staff, providing advice and consultation on Department policies, programs, and operations involving intact family services
  • Provides consultation, guidance, and policy interpretation to subordinate supervisory staff, community officials, and the private sector
  • Represents the Director and the Department to the community and press, public officials, governmental and private agencies, welfare councils, and civic organizations, possessing significant authority to bind the Department to a specific policy course of action
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires an MSW or master’s degree in a related human services field, in business administration, or a juris doctorate
  • Requires four years of administrative experience in human services in child welfare/child protection services
  • Requires a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act (ANCRA) and other child welfare laws and Illinois child protection reporting/investigation regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 years of experience supervising professional staff.
  • 5 years of professional experience in the oversight of a large program with multiple sites or multiple teams of subordinate professional staff
  • 5 years of experience managing or conducting child welfare casework or child protection investigations
  • Professional experience in the development and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Professional experience conducting planning activities for a social work program on a regional or statewide basis in a management capacity
  • Professional experience conducting community outreach as a representative of a public or business organization

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm
