Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a licensed Registered Nurse to serve as the Director of Nursing and to oversee and supervise professional and para-professional nursing staff in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients at the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center located in Chicago, Illinois. At Chicago-Read Mental Health Center, we treat individuals with dignity and compassion. Essential Functions

Serves as the Director of Nursing for Chicago-Read Mental Health Center.

Serves as full-line supervisor.

Manages and directs the health care services for the facility.

Recommends to the Medical Director the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

Develops in-service education programs for professional and paraprofessional nursing staff.

Develops budget and staffing plans for review by the Medical Director.

Conducts personal inspections of the various offices and living units.

Conducts staff meetings with both subordinate managers and other subordinate staff to discuss new policies and procedures.

Provides active nursing care to patients.

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
-
Requires a master’s degree in nursing or a health care related field with a minimum of four (4) years nursing leadership experience or bachelor’s degree in nursing or a health care related field with a minimum of six (6) years nursing leadership experience or associate’s degree in nursing or a health care related field with a minimum of ten (10) years nursing leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Five (5) years of professional experience working in a psychiatric hospital.

Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff, approving time off.

Two (2) years of professional experience recommending and implementing nursing policies and procedures relative to the latest trends and nursing standards.

Three (3) years of professional experience recommending and preparing nursing treatment plans for patients.
-
Three (3) years of professional experience providing training to paraprofessional and professional nursing staff.
-
Three (3) years of professional experience performing quality assurance assessments on nursing services and treatment provided to patients.
-
Three (3) years of professional experience working with current diagnostic and treatment modalities for psychiatric patients.
-
Three (3) years of professional experience communicating with internal and external stakeholders in oral and written form relative to the care and treatment of patients.
Conditions of Employment

Requires the ability to serve on-call on a rotating basis, after hours, weekends and holidays.

Requires the ability to maintain current certification of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
