POSITION SUMMARY

The Illinois Department of Central Management Services Bureau of Property Management is seeking to hire an Electrician at the Chicago Medical District in Chicago along with other facilities in the Chicago/Northern Region as needed. This position is responsible for the installation, alteration, and maintenance and repair of extensive electrical systems and equipment. In addition, this position performs preventative maintenance and repair on various electrical systems, including 400Hz motor generators, uninterrupted power supply systems, and battery system maintenance. The ideal candidate has successfully completed an electrician apprenticeship, and has full-time journey level electrician experience, and professional experience working with national and state electrical codes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Under general supervision, receives day-to-day guidance from the Chief Engineer, performs simple and complex electrical work at the journeyman level for the installation, alteration, and maintenance and repair of extensive electrical systems and equipment for the Chicago Medical Center and other facilities in the Chicago & Northern Region as needed.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repair on various electrical systems located at the Chicago Medical Center and other facilities in the Chicago & Northern Region.
  • Performs preventative maintenance activities on 400Hz motor generators, including lubrication and checking units for excessive vibration and noise.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repair of the UPS system located at various CMS operated facilities.
  • Installs and maintains battery systems ensuring proper function and integrity of batteries and that the battery charging systems are working correctly.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school.
  • Requires successful completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and four (4) years of full-time journey level electrician experience; or eight (8) years of full-time journey level electrician experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prefers five (5) years' professional experience working with established state and national electrical codes.
  • Prefers five (5) years' professional experience working with tools, methods, and standard practices of the electrician trade.
  • Prefers five (5) years' professional experience reading, interpreting, and working from blueprints, simple sketches, and drawings.
  • Prefers working knowledge of maintaining electrical systems and equipment which operate on alternating or direct current circuits, including high voltage distribution systems, power distribution units, energy consumption equipment, and/or Energy Management Systems.
  • Prefers five (5) years' professional experience interior floor duct systems and power poles.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of inspecting and perceiving unsafe or faulty conditions in production, transmission, and utilization of electricity.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of making rough sketches and estimates of time, labor, and material necessary to complete work orders.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires the ability to use agency materials/equipment (i.e., mobile phone, laptop, etc.).
  • Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Requires the ability to climb stairs, ladders, work from heights (on ladders, scaffolds, platforms, and lifts).
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
