Position Overview

The Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission (IWCC) is seeking a talented individual for the position of Executive I. Under direction, incumbent manages the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission's statewide transcript production program, and assists Public Service Administrator of Court Reporters with special projects and reports.

Essential Functions

  • Acts as the Court Reporting Department Liaison disseminating information in a professional manner relating to rules and procedures for filing a Review and destruction/retention of exhibits.
  • Monitors cases from arbitration level to appellate level of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission utilizing the CompFile system and updates the cases in the departmental case file spreadsheets.
  • Assists Court Reporter Supervisor in all departmental functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of 4 years of college preferably with course work in business or public administration.
  • Requires 1 year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least 2 years of extensive knowledge of the rules, practices, and procedures of the IWCC with a broad and general knowledge of the functions and activities of the program divisions within the Commission
  • Prefers at least 2 years working knowledge of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation and Occupational Diseases Acts; IWCC policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Prefers at least 2 years of working knowledge of court procedures, legal terminology, and transcripts as they pertain to the processing of workers’ compensation cases by the Commission.
  • Prefers at least 2 years working knowledge of agency computer applications and Microsoft office applications.
  • Prefers ability to assist tactfully, knowledgably, and courteously to the public, attorneys, injured employees, and other interested parties

Employment Conditions

  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach above shoulder level, lift, carry, push, pull.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 1,000 lbs. of boxes using special carts.
  • Ability to lift 200 lbs. for the purposes of moving furniture.

The Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission resolves disputes between employees and employers regarding work-related injuries and illnesses. A case is first tried by an arbitrator, whose decision may be reviewed by a panel of three commissioners. Cases may then be appealed to the circuit court, Appellate Court, and Illinois Supreme Court. Like most court systems, the vast majority of disputes are resolved by settlement.
