Position Overview:

The Illinois Liquor Control Commission is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Licensing Assistant. This position will report to the Licensing Administrator, which includes interviewing visitors regarding complaints and liquor licensing requirements, answering basic questions regarding Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) rules and regulations which concern the Licensing Act. They will review, approve and handle any issue with an Illinois Liquor license.

Essential Functions

  • Responds to visitor’s queries regarding the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) licensing operations for all licensing categories which will include manufacturers, distributors, importers, retailers, and not for profit organizations regarding compliance rules and regulations and licensing procedures.
  • Reviews, approves, and issues Illinois Liquor Licenses for the three tiers of the alcohol beverage industry using established guidelines for manufacturers, distributors, importers, retailers, and not-for-profit organizations.
  • Reviews and approves brand registrations for manufacturers, importers and distributors.
  • Receives, sorts, opens, and distributes agency’s incoming mail and online inquiries.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers one (1) year of experience explaining and interpreting simple statutory requirements, rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Prefers one (1) year of experience maintaining satisfactory working relationships with other employees, outside agencies and the public.
  • Prefers one (1) year of experience operating database systems.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to pass a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Cannot have been convicted of any violation of any Federal or State law concerning the manufacture or sale of alcoholic liquor.
  • This position prohibits convictions for driving under the influence (DUI).
  • No Illinois Liquor Control Commission employee or immediate family member may, directly or indirectly, individually or as a member of a partnership, or as a shareholder of a corporation, have any interest whatsoever in the manufacture, sale or distribution of alcoholic liquor.
  • No Illinois Liquor Control Commission employee or immediate family member may receive any compensation or profit from, nor have any interest in the purchases or sales made by the persons authorized (liquor license) or to purchase or to sell alcoholic liquor.

As a regulatory agency, we handle all licensing, compliance, and enforcement issues. However, we also focus on public health and safety concerns, particularly preventing underage drinking.
