Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and results oriented individual to serve as Nursing Manager.  This position manages and advises nursing staff in geographically designated areas regarding policies and procedures pertaining to medically complex cases. The position performs analysis of complex medical reports, medical records, treatment modalities, and treatment application for children with special health care needs and psychiatric issues.  This position will provide technical assistance and consultation to biological parents, foster parents, relative caregivers, or residential providers for children with high risk or complex medical needs.  In addition, the position provides input to the Chief Nurse regarding the establishment and revision of statewide nursing protocols and Department policies and procedures.  This position provides a great opportunity for a compassionate medical professional who is focused on ensuring that the children in care of DCFS receive the best health care possible.   DCFS offers a competitive compensation plan, excellent benefits, and a pension program. Essential Functions

  • Serves as Nursing Manager
  • Serves as Nursing Referral Tracking Administrator and principal liaison to the Chief Nurse regarding all matters related to nursing consultations for geographic area of assignment.
  • Serves as full line supervisor.
  • Provides expert nursing consultation to child abuse and neglect teams, fatality teams, and community health organizations.
  • Provides input into special studies and projects as designated by the Chief Nurse
  • Conducts direct bi-weekly supervision meetings with assigned staff.
  • Develops and conducts bi-annual trainings for professional staff, caregivers, and providers on identified medical issues and healthcare services
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Requires three years of progressively responsible experience in nursing.
  • Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois-copy of certificate required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of pediatric nursing experience.
  • 2 years of nursing experience.
  • 2 years of experience supervising professional staff.
  • 2 years of professional experience working in the child welfare system.
  • 2 years of professional experience developing or implementing performance standards for a nursing/medical care program.
  • 2 years of professional experience performing quality assurance monitoring for the delivery of health care services.
  • 2 years of professional experience developing and conducting training regarding health care services.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime, including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.  This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.  This also requires the ability to work in a 24 hour “on call” capacity.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiringthe occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.)requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement ofEconomic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
