Job Responsibilities
Under direction, receives and reviews incoming criminal history and CANTS clearances and applies agency policy and procedures to independently provide information and/or recommendations for resolution; receives and reviews driver eligibility forms; utilizing knowledge and familiarity with all statutes, standards and procedures applicable to CANTS and criminal history, independently performs cursory review of Background Check information; performs data entry into the appropriate Departmental system; prepares, keyboards, and maintains complex, highly specialized reports; maintains daily log for reports and driver eligibility requests; serves as liaison to requesting parties regarding information on Authorization for Background Check; serves as Central Office of Licensing contact for all issues concerning facility driver checks; works with Secretary of State staff to facilitate the resolution of address concerns; receives, sorts, reviews, and distributes incoming mail; establishes and maintains files.
25% 1. Receives and reviews incoming criminal history and CANTS clearances and applies agency policy and procedures to independently provide information and/or recommendations for resolution; receives and reviews driver eligibility forms; utilizing knowledge and familiarity with all statutes, standards and procedures applicable to CANTS and criminal history, independently performs cursory review of Background Check information to ensure completeness of information for approval or denial of licensure/employment prior to data entry; returns incomplete forms to requesting party for correction and resubmission; processes Background Check Unit notices; exercises independent judgment and a command of legal, medical, and social terminology to review documents.
20% 2. Performs data entry of CANTS, Sex Offender Registry System (SORS), National Sex Offender Registry System (NSORS), Out-of-State CANTS, Interstate Criminal History, Illinois State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and/or driver eligibility status for facility drivers into the appropriate Departmental system.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Requires extensive knowledge of office practices, procedures and programs.
- Requires extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Requires working knowledge of basic mathematics.
- Requires elementary knowledge of agency programs, rules and regulations.
- Requires ability to follow oral or written instructions.
- Requires ability to operate commonly used manual and automated office equipment and perform routine maintenance.
- Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 45 WPM.
- May require skill in taking dictation accurately.
- In addition to having a written and spoken knowledge of the English language, candidates may be required to speak and write a foreign language at a colloquial skill level in carrying out position duties in conjunction with non-English speaking individuals.
Education Degree
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two years of office experience.
