Position Overview:
Under direction, performs paraprofessional or technical secretarial and office support functions; paraprofessional or technical work is coordinative in nature and involves the application of advanced technical knowledge of a major software application program and/or a combination of high level clerical and low level professional work.
Essential Functions
- Provides secretarial support functions utilizing a personal computer network and internet, input and upload a variety of legal documents for recordkeeping and tracking of individual cases/records
- Keyboards data including parties to the workers compensation including correct addresses, dates, attorney and insurance policy information from database and website into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet
- Inputs complex legal workers compensation terms, medical terminology, and other legal notations into electronic data base from various IWCC documents and approved settlement contracts, Arbitration and Review level Decision/Orders.
- Examines database of cases where respondents are in the process of paying penalties or reimbursements to the Injured Workers' Benefit Fund.
- Work with investigators and other DOI staff to conduct advance investigations including data entry, and drafting and sending correspondence to state agencies, respondents, and other parties as necessary to provide case updates.
- Interpret electronic email messages and other electronic requests for information from IWCC department staff, attorneys, and parties to the case.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college, or completion of high school and two years of related office experience, or two years of independent business experience.
- Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 30 wpm

The Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission resolves disputes between employees and employers regarding work-related injuries and illnesses. A case is first tried by an arbitrator, whose decision may be reviewed by a panel of three commissioners. Cases may then be appealed to the circuit court, Appellate Court, and Illinois Supreme Court. Like most court systems, the vast majority of disputes are resolved by settlement.
