Position Overview:
Do you possess a fiscal background with strong attention to detail? The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking an individual to serve as the Account Technician I under general supervision of the Business Administrator at the Illinois Youth Center in Chicago. The incumbent in this role prepares the facility payroll. The incumbent will also receive and process documents from other sources influencing payroll processing. The incumbent will maintain accurate, current, and continuous records verifying compliance with laws and regulations governing payroll. The ideal candidate will have previous work experience involving processing Worker’s Compensation claims, Group Insurance, and state employee’s retirement system transactions. Essential Functions:
- Prepares facility payroll.
- Receives and processes documents from other sources influencing payroll processing.
- Maintains accurate, current, and continuous records verifying compliance with laws and regulations governing payroll.
- Assists in the processing of all Worker’s Compensation claims, Group Insurance, and state employee’s retirement system transactions for the facility.
- Prepares information for attendance reports throughout the month including overtime, monthly sick time, affirmative attendance reports, and other miscellaneous business office reports.
- Assists other Business Office staff in the performance of duties and serves as back up to other Account Technician I’s.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course or three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
*This title is included as an Upward Mobility Program certificate title.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance):
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working with the principles and/or techniques of payroll processing.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience inputting and posting information to computerized systems.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience reconciling reports, preferably reports directly related to arrearages.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience meeting deadlines in a time sensitive environment.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working with personnel related systems for state or non-state government employment.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in data entry requiring special attention to detail.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience serving as the main point of contact for a large entity with at least 500 employees.

- Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
