Positon Overview
Under direction, provides legal counsel and assistance regarding consumer financial protection laws under the administration of the Department, their accompanying regulations, and the interaction of all these laws with related State and federal laws. Prepares and prosecutes enforcement actions issued to regulated entities and individuals and represents the agency before administrative tribunals related to such actions. Travels to various sites for hearings, internal and external meetings.

Essential Functions
- Under direction, provides legal counsel and assistance pertaining to consumer financial protection laws and regulations, including, but not limited to, the Community Reinvestment Act, the Anti-Predatory Lending Database, and the Predatory Loan Prevention Act.
- Under direction, confers with Division of Banking and Division of Financial Institutions staff and attorneys, other Department staff and attorneys, legislators and their staff, state and federal regulatory agencies, members of agency regulated industries and their attorneys, and the public on complex legal problems.
- Represents the Department in hearings and investigations involving violations of laws administered by the Department, their accompanying regulations, and related state and federal laws and regulations. Travels to perform these duties.
- Represents the Department at Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) hearings, providing testimony in support of the rule changes and/or amendments.
- Serves as backup to Associate General Counsel of the Regulatory Affairs Unit.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires law degree and possession of a license to practice law in Illinois.
- Requires three years progressively responsible administrative experience in law.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers a least six years of experience practicing law.
- Prefers at least six years of experience in organizing facts and collecting evidence.
- Prefers at least four years of trial or equivalent litigation experience.
- Prefers at least two years of experience with financial regulatory law.
