Job Responsibilities
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and results-oriented individual to serve as Cook County Supervisory Regional Counsel. In addition to supervising attorneys assigned to courtrooms at Cook County Juvenile Court, this position will provide legal advice and counsel to professional staff in various divisions of the Department. Job Responsibilities continued
1. Serves as Cook County Supervisory Regional Counsel
2. Serves as full line supervisor
3. Represents the Department in the Circuit Court of Cook County
4. Serves as Department representative at all levels of administrative “fair hearings”
5. Maintains current working knowledge of new legislation, Department rules and policy, and all relevant law
6. Provides legal training to Department administrators, supervisors, and staff on various topics including testifying in court
7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires possession of a license to practice law in Illinois
2. Requires three years of experience as an attorney presenting and arguing cases in court and/or administrative hearings
3. Requires experience as an attorney in cases involving child welfare or juvenile law
4. Requires experience supervising and/or managing professional staff
Preferred Qualifications
1. Prefers experience supervising attorneys in a courtroom setting
2. Prefers thorough knowledge of Illinois statutes and rules that have a substantial impact on Illinois juvenile court proceedings and/or DCFS’s administrative hearings
3. Prefers substantive legal writing experience as an attorney in the areas of motions, pleadings, briefs, and memoranda
4. Prefers professional experience working in a liaison capacity with various internal and external entities

2. Requires possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to travel
