Position Overview

Under direction, serves as lead worker over direct care staff; serves as a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team. Directs personnel on the day shift in the delivery of patient care and treatment consistent with patient treatment plans of mentally ill, deaf, hard of hearing and DeafBlind patients. Assigns and directs performance of staff for adherence to treatment plans and compliance with applicable operational policies and procedures. Utilizing the nursing process, assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the delivery of nursing care for patients receiving services. Monitors the use of appropriate techniques to ensure a safe, secure therapeutic and sanitary environment of care and general performance of duties. Utilizes manual communication skills with individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing and DeafBlind.

Job Responsibilities

20%       1.  Serves as a lead worker to lower level staff.

 

20%       2.  Directs personnel on the day shift in the delivery of patient care and treatment consistent with patient treatment plans of mentally ill, deaf, hard of hearing and DeafBlind patients. Assigns and directs performance of staff for adherence to treatment plans and compliance with applicable operational policies and procedures and current professional standards of psychiatric mental health patient care and nursing practice. Makes frequent nursing rounds to review status and safety of patients and the environment of the unit and to review care provided by subordinate staff. Provides report to staff and to oncoming lead worker to ensure continuity of care. Reviews ongoing nursing documentation to verify timely and accurate completion of assessments/reassessments, care planning, intervention and evaluation.

 

20%       3.  Utilizing the nursing process, assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the delivery of nursing care for patients receiving services.

 

15%       4.  Monitors the use of appropriate techniques to ensure a safe, secure therapeutic and sanitary environment of care and general performance of duties.

 

10%       5.  Participates in meetings and discussions with clinical, medical, administrative and other staff.

 

10%       6.  Completes mandatory training requirements and participates in continuing education workshops and seminars to maintain age and disability specific professional competency through observation and evaluation, assesses competence levels and training needs of subordinate staff.

 

 5%        7.  Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires (a) graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing and two years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience;

or (b) a bachelor’s degree in nursing and one year of professional nursing experience;

or (c) a master’s degree in nursing.

      2.  Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.

      3.  Requires ability to communicate through American sign language at a colloquial skill level.

Work Hours:  7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
