Job Responsibilities

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and results oriented individual to serve as Deputy Director of Research and Child Well-Being.  This position will direct Department activities to ensure successful implementation of the Core Practice Model, Early Childhood Court Teams, Family First Prevention Services, and Early Childhood programming, including Home Visiting.  The position will direct, coordinate, and review the activities of statewide research and child well-being operations through subordinate managers, including Immersion Site program administration and incorporation of this work into statewide programming.  The position will also develop and provide administrative oversight for contracts including programming for the Office of Research and Child Well-Being.  This position provides a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about children and interested in being a leader in the administration of program services for DCFS.  DCFS offers a competitive compensation plan, excellent benefits, and a pension program.  The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent organizational skills and strong leadership skills.  We invite you to join our innovative team to help make a positive difference in the lives of the children and families of Illinois.

 

  1. Serves as Deputy Director of Research and Child Well-Being
  2. Directs, coordinates, and reviews the activities of statewide research and child well-being operations and programs through subordinate managers, including Immersion Site program administration and incorporation of this work into statewide programming
  3. Serves as full line supervisor
  4. Serves as a member of the Director’s Executive Staff
  5. Represents the Director before other state agencies, private and public organizations, and lay groups with regard to programs and services of the division, possessing authority to commit the Department to specific courses of action
  6. Coordinates the design, development, implementation and maintenance of a problem resolution system addressing quality of service issues
  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1.  Requires an MSW or master’s degree in a related human services field, in business administration, or a juris doctorate

2.  Requires four years of administrative child welfare experience with an MSW or five years of administrative child welfare experience with a master’s degree in a related human services field, in business administration, or a juris doctorate

 

Preferred Qualification:

1.  6 years of experience supervising professional staff

2.  5 years of professional experience in the oversight of a large program with multiple sites

3.  5 years of experience managing or conducting child welfare casework or child protection investigations

4.  Professional experience in the development and implementation of policies and procedures

5.  Professional experience conducting planning activities for a social work program on a regional or statewide basis in a management capacity

6.  Professional experience conducting community outreach as a representative of a public or business organization

Education Degree
