Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and results oriented individual to serve as Staff Assistant to the Director of Racial Equity Practice.  Under general direction, this position will serve as liaison with internal staff and other Departmental divisions, including the Director’s Office, facilitating greater communication between the entities and providing technical assistance in the resolution of problems.  The position will schedule and coordinate meetings, take notes, develop meeting minutes, and represent the Direct of Racial Equity Practice at meetings, as assigned.  This position provides a great opportunity for someone who is detail oriented and interested in playing a supportive role in the agency’s operations.  DCFS offers a competitive compensation plan, excellent benefits, and a pension program.  The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent organizational skills and strong leadership and communication capabilities.  We invite you to join our innovative team to help make a positive difference in the lives of the children and families of Illinois.

Job Responsibilities

1. Serves as staff assistant to the Director of the Office of Racial Equity Practice.

2. Schedules and coordinates meetings.

3. Gathers materials and prepares, proofreads, and prioritizes complex documents.

4. Confers with management staff, identifying operational problems and providing input into the development of appropriate solutions.

5. Serves as timekeeper.

6. Oversees the compilation of the monthly activity report and maintenance of appropriate records and files.

7. Sets up and maintains a variety of informational files for the Director of Racial Equity Practice.

8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with coursework in public or business administration.

2. Requires one year of professional experience in a public or private organization, or satisfactory completion of an agency approved professional management training program.
